Arclid Adonis
Arclid Adonis was imported from the UK by Maurice Irvine of Tullymore Shire Horse Stud in the Hunter Valley. He has excellent bloodlines and great conformation.
Adonis is by Blackden Charlie (Super Premium) out of a Bodernog Master mare. Both of those stallions have bred multiple show winners in the UK and continue to have a positive impact on the breed through their grandchildren.
Adonis has proven himself in the show ring both as a stallion and as a sire. He won the Sydney Royal Easter show and the National Shire Show. His progeny have an impeccable show record, winning multiple classes and championships at the highest level.
We are particularly pleased to have two of his daughters in our breeding program.
COWHILL SOVERIGN
Cowhill Soverign was imported into Australia by Mike & Barbie Chandler of Longcopy Stud in the 1980’s. When he arrived as a four year old, he was one of only two Shire stallions responsible for rebuilding the Shire breed in Australia.
Soverign won the one year old stallion class at the Peterborough Show as a yearling, then stood third as a two year old. Finally, prior to being exported, he stood second in a large class of three year old stallions.
Sadly, Soverign passed away the same year he won the Supreme Championship at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Although he only had a few years, Soverign definitely left his mark on Australian Shires. He left behind seven foals in Australia, including two colts.
We carry his lines in our mares Darkmoor Elizabeth,Ingleside Imogen,Ingleside Felicity & Darkmoor Angelina.
CUBLEY CHARLEY
Though he was foaled in 1979, Cubley Charley made a strong contribution to the modern Shire horse. A four time winner of the King George V Cup at Peterborough Show, Charley sired Crossfields Honeysuckle, dam to champion stallion Walton Supreme, and Blackden Charlie. Both of those horses went on to become champion stock getting stallions in their own right, firmly earning Cubley Charley his place in Shire history.
HILLMOOR ENTERPRISE
Born in 1970, Hillmoor Enterprise has arguably influenced the modern Shire more than any other stallion. Although Enterprise was listed in the Shire studbook as being sired by Hillmoor Harvester and out of Hillmoor Lady Joan, it is now common knowledge that he was actually a full-blooded Clydesdale.
During his years at stud Enterprise sired 148 registered foals, many of which turned out to be influential stallions in their own right. Those include Hillmoor Prince Charles, Grangewood Royal Soverign and Tremeolgoch Gold Award (exported to America), just to name a few.
Enterprise won the Shire Horse Society Spring Show in 1975 and again in 1976.
Since he was such a prolific stallion, most modern Shires carry Enterprise’s line. The two most notable descendants in recent years are Metheringham Upton Hamlet and Sladbrook Benefactor, both of whom are Shire Horse Of The Year Show winners.
HILLMOOR PRINCE CHARLES
One of the best breeding sons of the great Hillmoor Enterprise, Hillmoor Prince Charles was the longest lived Super Premium stallion to date. He won the King George V Cup for Best Stallion at Peterborough in 1987 and covered over 53 mares in his best season at stud.
Prince Charles sired many show winners over the years – some of his best known offspring are Moorfield Edward, Hainton Amy and Tree House Prince, just to name a few.
His bloodlines are present in Australia through Oakridge Speculator and Moorfield Edward (via frozen semen).
LADBROOK EDWARD
When Ladbrook Edward was imported to Australia in 1981, he was charged with rebuilding the Shire breed in this country. Helene & Greg Scarf purchased Edward as a colt from Arthur Lewis, of Ladbrook Shire Horse Stud, in the United Kingdom. His sire was the well-known stallion Ladbrook Aristocrat, who later sold to Fox Valley stud in the United States. His dam was the highly successful show mare Ladbrook Poppett.
Edward stood at stud for Cedars Shire Horses in Kangaroo Valley for close to 20 years. During that time he won many shows, including Sydney Royal Easter Show, and sired over 55 foals, 21 of which went on to be registered in the Shire studbook.
Many of the Shire horses in Australia have bloodlines that trace back to Ladbrook Edward.
MOORFIELD EDWARD
Moorfield Edward barely needs an introduction here – he is arguably one of the best stock getting stallions of the last 20 years. Born in 1992, Edward was bred by one of the more notable Shire horse breeders in modern times, the late Ray Williams.
Edward was a Super Premium stallion for many years and twice won the Champion Stock Getter award at the Shire Horse Society Spring Show. He is the sire and grandsire of innumerable champion Shire horses.
Edward passed away in 2018 at the ripe old age of 25.
We plan to use Edward as a supporting stallion in our breeding program via frozen semen we purchased several years ago.
OAKRIDGE SPECULATOR
Oakridge Speculator was imported from England in 2005 by Ingleside Shire Horse Stud. This particular combination of bloodlines (Lancashire Supreme over a Blackden Charlie mare) produced several excellent breeding stallions, including Oakridge Speculator, Sladbrook Jubilee Spirit and Springbank Storm.
Speculator is one of the most prolific Shire stallions in Australia.
TRELOW FATHER ABRAHAM
Trelow Father Abraham, bred by Terry Sandling, was a Super Premium stallion who also won the Champion Stock Getter award at the Shire Horse Society Spring Show.
In 1999, Terry gifted Father Abraham to Peter McKeon & Bill Lambert, who subsequently imported him into Australia. The aim of that undertaking (from both sides) was to improve the Shire breed here in Australia. Father Abraham well and truly accomplished that, siring many champions. Three of his daughters have won the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
WALTON SUPREME
Walton Supreme (bred by Dothan Stud) was one of the best stock getters in the last few decades, producing many champion foals. He was also a champion in his own right, winning the King George V Cup at the Shire Horse Society Spring Show. Supreme held a Super Premium classification for many years.
WYEE ARCHER
Wyee Archer was a son of Walton Supreme (UK Super Premium), bred in Australia via AI and born in 2001. Archer was a half brother to several highly successful show horses in England, most notably the 2012 Shire Horse Of The Year, Sladbrook Benefactor.
He was the only son of Walton Supreme in the country and despite only standing at stud for the second half of his life, he left quite a legacy in Australian Shires with many of his progeny winning broad ribbons.
His foals all exhibit tremendous body, power and substance and carry his large foot and wonderful temperament.
Archer passed in 2020.
